Am I the only mom who suffers from their children and husband suddenly liking or not liking some food?  Perhaps it is because I deal with so many different palates in my house, but it seems to me that someone is always saying, “I won’t eat that.  I don’t like it,” leaving me wondering when that happened.Nutella No Bake S'mores Bars

My son, the Comedian,  went through a phase where he hated McDonald’s burgers but would eat any other fast food joint’s burgers.  Then he decided he didn’t like pizza.  Seriously.   Luckily that only lasted about six months.   The Thinker doesn’t like green noodles or spinach.  The Engineer doesn’t like mushrooms, olives, shrimp or anything that has a texture like them.  But it was the Musician’s latest that is driving me nuts.  Suddenly, at seventeen, he doesn’t like certain cereals!!  Egads!  Who doesn’t like Frosted Flakes????

So it’s sort of hit or miss when I buy cereal on sale.  As a person who never liked the gloppy, marshmallow, chocolate or fruity cereals, I am in no way a cereal connoisseur.   I am happy with granola and the occasional rice chex.   A few weeks ago I found a store brand version of Golden Grahams on sale.  I bought two boxes.  Well, I just about had to pay the kids to eat the first box.  I decided to use the second box in a cereal dessert bar.  It’s amazing how those kids will eat things they supposedly don’t like when it is covered with nutella and marshmallows.Nutella No Bake S'mores Bars

No Bake Nutella S'mores Bars
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup corn syrup
  • 1 cup Nutella
  • 1 10oz box Golden Grahams
  • 1 bag mini marshmallows
  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar and corn syrup.
  2. Heat and boil for one minute.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in Nutella until melted.
  4. Put cereal and marshmallows into a large bowl.
  5. Pour Nutella sauce over cereal and marshmallows.
  6. Stir to coat.
  7. Pat into a greased 9X13 pan.
  8. Cool and cut.
